Like a cherub caught in a neon rainstorm, the work of Daphne Sweet is unmistakable. Sweet’s shy, “no thought” approach to making is both private and inviting. Modern Rococo, Sweet’s work features a familiar cast of characters and gestures distorted by color and repetition. Drive slow on a foggy highway against oncoming traffic blurring past or try to follow a lightning bug through a hot summer night and you’ll end up in the subterranean miasma of Sweet’s work.
